Sergeant Jeffry Kowalski

On October 1, 2008, Sergeant Jeffry Kowalski died as a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty 21 years prior. Sergeant Kowalski was shot in 1987 while taking a suspect into custody. As a result of the gunshot wound, he retired in 1999 and was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2008, which he battled until his death late that year.
Sergeant Kowalski served with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for 21 years. He left behind his wife and two daughters.
