Nicole Boyd, surviving spouse of St. Louis Deputy Sheriff Dennis Boyd, EOW 9/25/24, and BackStoppers Executive Director Lt. Col. Lawrence O’Toole addressed the importance of the Cardiac Wellness Program. Watch the Spectrum News interview here.

For the first time in the history of our organization, we are embarking on a mission to save the lives of public safety officers by being proactive in preventing tragedy. One of the leading causes of first responder deaths is cardiac events. We want to provide our public safety officers with the opportunity to take a preventative heart scan that could save their life.
“BackStoppers has always been there immediately upon a death of a public safety officer first, but now we want to take the initiative to help prevent a tragedy. I want every responder we serve to stay ready, be prepared and take action. Taking this heart scan will ensure that you are doing just that. This will be the first step of expanding our mission while keeping the service to our fallen and catastrophically injured heroes at the forefront.” – Lt. Col. Lawrence O’Toole, BackStoppers Executive Director
