Today is the anniversary of Officer Grant Jansen’s end of watch date, who was killed in the line of duty in a single vehicle crash on September 10, 2008. Officer Jansen left behind his wife, Annette, who was six weeks pregnant, and their six year old son and four year old daughter.
Annette shares an update on her oldest son, Tyler, as he enters a new and exciting chapter life.
“My son, Tyler Jansen is 18. He just graduated high school from Liberty High School in Wentzville School District. Tyler was 6 when his dad died in 2008. He was diagnosed with Autism when he was 2.5 years old, and was non-verbal for the first 5 years of his life. He slowly started talking due to the amazing teachers and therapists he has had throughout his life. He has not had an easy life. From having Autism, communication deficits, social deficits, and an intellectual disability to medical issues with his eyes, heart, and spine. I struggled to keep it together finding the services that he needed all while raising two other children without their father’s help. Fast forward almost 12 years and my son with Autism has graduated high school and is enrolled in The Succeed Program at UMSL this fall. The Succeed Program is a college experience specifically tailored to students with Special Needs.”
“Bottom line, I could not have afforded all the necessary therapies, and surgeries my son has needed throughout these years while being able to be a stay at home to my 3 kids without the assistance of BackStoppers. I attribute much of Tyler’s successes and progress to the amazing people at BackStoppers. And now they will continue to help us through this next milestone as he enters the UMSL program. I couldn’t be more proud of him, and I couldn’t be more grateful to BackStoppers.”
