Sixteen years ago, Lane Carl was a high school art teacher looking for a career change when she was encouraged to pursue a career in firefighting. She is now in her third year as a firefighter serving Rock Community Fire Protection District. Firefighter Carl was then inspired to create the character, Indie, and write her story centered around firefighting and encouraging girls that they can be firefighters, too.
