St. Louis Fire Captain Derek Martin died in the line of duty on May 3, 2002 when he became trapped in a burning building while searching for another firefighter.
Captain Martin served with the St. Louis Fire Department for 11 years and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Valor and promoted to Captain. He left behind his wife and three children.
