The BackStoppers is now assisting the family of Officer Tamarris L. Bohannon of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department who was shot upon responding to a call on August 29, 2020 and succumbed to gunshot wounds on August 30, 2020.

Officer Bohannon was 29 years old and had served with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department for over three years. He leaves behind his wife and three young children.

Our hearts go out to Officer Bohannon’s family, friends, loved ones and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department during this extremely difficult time.

“The bravery of Officer Bohannon will never be forgotten, and his life will be honored.” – Chief Ron Battelle, BackStoppers Executive Director

Donations to the BackStoppers support all of the families we assist, including the family of Officer Tamarris Bohannon, both now and in the future.  The St. Louis Metropolitan Police Dept. announced the only charitable options endorsed by the Bohannon family are The BackStoppers and the Officer Bohannon Memorial Fund at First Community and no online fundraisers are approved by the family.

Your donation supports the Bohannon family and all families of fallen heroes by paying off all debt, providing health insurance, reimbursing for out-of-pocket medical expenses, covering tuition and educational costs from day care through university, and assisting with miscellaneous extraordinary expenses now and in the future.  Thank you for your support of our mission.

The BackStoppers assists approximately 80 families with 70 dependent children and has assisted over 170 families since 1959.

The BackStoppers’ assistance is immediate and ongoing.  Following the death of a police officer, his or her family receives a check for $10,000 to be used in whatever way they need.

Within a few weeks, our representatives meet with the surviving spouse to identify the family’s other financial obligations, eliminate the family’s debt, and provide ongoing support for education and other extraordinary expenses.

We recognize the tremendous sacrifices that public servants make every day when they go to work. We understand the burdens placed on surviving spouses and children when tragedies occur. We believe our community has an obligation to care for the loved ones of those who have protected us. We accept the responsibility to make that happen.  Join us in our cause.  Help us provide life-long support for families of fallen heroes by donating or joining online or by mail to the address below.
